Here are your HW Assignments for the week of February 6, 2012.  Unless otherwise noted, HW assignments are due the next day.  Please be advised that effective January 31, 2012, all HW assignments must be signed by a parent; any student who does not have their homework signed will not receive credit for their assignment.

HW Assignments Week of 1/8/12

Hello, RUSH Students:

Here are your assignments for the week of January 8, 2012.

MONDAY - Review the video that we watched in class today, by clicking HERE.   Carefully view the video, and complete the VIDEO QUESTIONNAIRE.  It's a good idea to watch the video and work on the questionnaire at the same time, stopping the video in, or around the sections that pertain to the questions.

TUESDAY:  Complete the following reading on Imperialism .   It would be a really good idead to print out the reading, highlight it, and take notes on what you've highlighted.   After completing the reading, complete the question sheet.

HW Assignments Week of 1/3/12

Hello, RUSH Students:

Here are your assignments for the week of 1/3/12.


SUPPLY CHECK FRIDAY!  


Five students will be chosen randomly in each class.  If each student has all of their supplies (pen, looseleaf binder, looseleaf paper, and folder), the entire class gets a 100 quiz grade.  If 4 out of 5 have them, the class gets an 80, etc.  

All make-up work/credit repair/extra credit assignments are due no later than MONDAY January 9th.

Tuesday Night - Review for the Constitution Exam, which you will resume TOMORROW.  If you lost your exam "cheat sheet," you can make a new one.

Make-Up Assignments and Missing Work

Students:

Listed below are makeup assignments which you may use in place of missing assessment pieces, or in an attempt to raise your grades on previous assignments.

Please note that all missing work and/or these assignments are due not later than January 9th. No missing work will be accepted after that date, and it will be recorded as a zero, or if you are using these in an attempt to raise your grade, it will not be counted for that purpose.

PLEASE NOTE:  a zero grade can result in your failure of the course, or the awarding of an NC (No Credit). This means that you will not receive credit for the trimester. This will have to be made up either in credit repair, or summer school.

Here are the assignments. You can do as many as you want, or need to do.

1. DBQ Assignment: Mass Media. Discuss the role that the mass media has played in influencing United States
history and/orAmerican society since 1900. Use historical examples to support
your discussion.

YOU MUST HAND IN THE COMPLETED DOCUMENTS, AS WELL AS THE ESSAY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT.

2. Thematic Essay: Individuals, Groups and Institutions. Identify one controversial domestic issue that has divided the American
people and
• Discuss the historical background of the controversy
• Explain the point of view of those who supported this issue
• Explain the point of view of those who opposed this issue
• Discuss oneUnited States government action that was taken to
address this issue

3. Thematic Essay Turning Points. Identify two major events in United States history that were important
turning points and for each:
• Describe the historical circumstances that led to the event
• Discuss the political, social, and/oreconomic changes that resulted
from the event.

4. THEMATIC ESSAY: Contributions of Individuals to American Life. Identify two individuals who have had a significant impact on American life
during the 20th century and for each
• Describe a problem in American society that the individual tried to change
• Discuss an important contribution made by the individual to address
this problem
• Evaluate the impact of the contribution on American life

For each assignment you must:
1. Print out the assignment.
2. For the DBQ Assignment, you must complete the DBQ Questions in order to receive full credit (worth 50% of the grade).
3. Complete an OUTLINE of each essay using the BLOCK OUTLINE (-10 for no outline).
4. Write a well-organized essay that includes an introduction, several paragraphs addressing the task, and a conclusion.

Do your best. Remember, everything is due by the 15th.

Thematic Essay - Portfolio Assignment #2

Hello, RUSH students:

Here's your assignment(s) for the week. We are going to be working on another assessment piece. This one is directly related to the project we just completed.

We're going to be exploring the theme of Constitutional Change. Your mission is to complete a thematic essay, based on the amendment mini-project.

Here's your task:

Identify two amendments to the United States Constitution and for each:

• Discuss the historical circumstances that led to the adoption of the
amendment
• Discuss how the amendment changed the United States government
and/or American society

You may use any constitutional amendment from your study of United States history.
Some suggestions you might wish to consider include the 1st Amendment — personal
freedoms (1791), 15th amendment — right to vote (1870), 16th Amendment — income tax
(1913), 17th Amendment — election of senators (1913), 18th Amendment — Prohibition
(1919), 19th Amendment — suffrage (1920), or 22nd Amendment — term limits (1951).

IMPORTANT DATES:

Friday Dec 2nd- Draft #2/Peer Review
Tuesday Dec 6th - Final Draft Due.

Thematic Essay - Portfolio Assignment

MAJOR ASSESSMENT PIECE (PORTFOLIO PIECE #1): DUE DATE WED. 11/16
Thematic Essay: Constitutional Issues

The Constitutional Convention of 1787 adopted several compromises to resolve disagreements over major issues facing the new nation.

Task:
Identify two issues from the Constitutional Convention of 1787 (what were two disagreements that occurred?).

For each issue identified

• Describe the disagreement that arose over the issue at the C.C. (tell us about the disagreement; don’t just say what it was! Who was it between? What was it over?)
• Explain how the issue was resolved through the use of Compromise (Give the details behind the compromises; how did they work? What did each side get?

You may use any issue that was discussed at the CC. . Some
suggestions you might wish to consider include, but are not limited to:
• Representation in Congress
• Slavery
• Taxation
