The bird represents Russia while the car represents the US. They are racing for the sake of western Europe. The bird is carrying chaos and is trying to spread it to western Europe. The artist gave it that name because if America lost that race communism would spread and thats why he want them to hurry up. The cartoonist is urging the congress to help support and save western Europe. The congress responded by racing down to western Europe for support. I think the foreign policy is containment.

1. The bird is a stork. When children asked about how babies were made parents used to say that a bird called a stork brought them to their houses. Storks represent communism in the Soviet Union, and and the automobile represents the U.S. being the doctor. They are racing toward Europe.
2. The bird (stork) is carrying a baby, but the baby is chaos. The events in th years after World War II the cartoonist is referring to are the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, about the Soviet Union trying to take over all of Europe and spread communism, how the U.S. was trying to stop them and help rebuild Europe.
3. I think the artist entitled the cartoon "Step on it, Dock?" because the U.S. (the car) needed to hurry up and stop/beat communism (the bird) before it spreads and creates chaos. They need to help Europe before Europe gets taken over.
4. I think The cartoonist is urging Congress to stop communism, and to get to Europe and pass the Marshal Plan.
5. Congress responded to the danger shown in the cartoon by creating the Marshall plan which would help rebuild Europe.

1) In this cartoon the bird represents communism and the automobile represents the doctor U.S congress. They are both racing towards western Europe to see who will get there first I think.

2) The bird is carrying a baby labeled chaos and I think this refers to the cold war when the soviet union was trying to spread communism around the world and how it was destroying everything.

3) I think the cartoon was titled "Step on it Doc" because it is showing the the U.S congress is trying to get to the western European countries before the soviet union did because the U.S did not want to be a country of communism, they were democratic. If the soviet union took over the world then the U.S will lose their helpers from other countries.

4)The cartoonist is urging congress to work fast in order to keep out of communism. As you see in the cartoon the bird is flying fast to spread the communism around.

5)Here in the cartoon, congress automatically responded by reacting to communism and they did the same thing the soviet union did.

The goal was containment of communism and how eventually the communist world would collapse. It was a competition without really fighting and the U.S contained the Soviet Unions power.

The bird represents communism and the car represents help from communism. So where they are trying to get to is Western Europe. The bird (communism) is carrying a baby which represents chaos.
This refers to the time of the Soviet Union trying to spread communism all over the world and the conflicts that lead to the Cold War. As seen for many Americans communism carries chaos which would cause a lot of problems. The artist gave the name step on it doc, where I can see the doctor is racing to save Western Europe before chaos and communism takes affect.
The cartoonist is urging Congress to prevent communism to take affect in the area. They made a new foreign policy. The new foreign policy that was made was containment.

Based on the cartoon that appeared in an American newspaper in 1947. The bird represents the Soviet Union(Russia) and the car represents the U.S. They are both racing for the goal of the domination of Western Europe. The artist is referring to the "Cold War" that took place after World War II and is urging the Congress to try and contain Communism from spreading in Western Europe and later on the World. The artist gave the title "Step on it" because he wants the U.S. to hurry up and stop communism from spreading. The Congress responded to this danger shown by making the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall plan which gave aid to European nations who were fighting communism by the U.S. The name of this U.S. foreign policy is Containment.
