Based on the packet we recieved in class today, the three reasons why Americans supported Imperialism because 1)Economic development. The Americans needed markets to sell of their goods. 2)Protection, by taking over nations it showed that Americans were not going to get scared of by anyone. And lastly Culture because the Americans wanted to spread their culture in other parts of the world because they believed that god had choosen them to lead the world. I think that the United States should not have adopted the policy of imperialism because some nations now call them hypocrites because they forced people to follow their lifestyle, but on the other hand if the U.S. had not followed the policy of imperialism it would not have been as powerful as it is today.

Two reasons that might explain why Americans supported imperialism are 1)power; and 2)money. I think that the U.S. should have not adopted the policy of imperialism because the U.S. was also a colony once. When the U.S. was a colony they thought imperialism was unfair, so they shouldn't be practicing that belief.
P.S. I didn't receive a packet.

The three reasons America supported imperialism was in order to expand the country, hopefully create or receive better naval benefits and to become a richer and more powerful country.I think the U.S. should adopt imperialism but, to a certain extent. If we were to want a piece of land we should purchase it and not go to war with the country that owns it.If we do adopt imperialism we the president might get stubborn or greedy if they belive in imperialism and many wars will begin.

The three reasons why Americans supported imperialism, was (1) economic reasons(they would provide materials to factories and get manufactured goods) (2) A desire to be a great power ( in order to be great, they thought the US had to control areas around the world.) (3) belief in moral superiority( since they thought they had bigger power, they should rule less able countries.)
I do not think that the US should have adopted the policy of imperialism. If it was once a foreign country, then why would it want to take over other countries? Just because it has more power now? They are really only doing this to get materials that are cheaper in the other countries. They are not even trying to work with their own country, and we are the most powerful one. We should be able to work by ourselves to become the best country, and work fairly. It seems that we are using the other countries which is wrong. Why should we steal another countries rights and power? They should be able to work with their nation the way that they want to, instead of having the US control them. Everyone in that nation should be able to organize and work for their country.

1) The three reasons why Americans supporeted imperialism are: 1) America fought with Great Britain so they could keep the British soldiers. 2)They supported the independent nations. 3) The last reason is Spanish American war.

2)I think that the United States shouldn't have adapted the policy of imperialism because what imperialism is,is taking over another country to expand yours and i dont think thats right.

Americans supported imperialism because:
1. If they expanded America would gain more power
2.it would help with trade
3.America would have more money

I do think that america should have adopted the policy of imperialism because being so small it made them gain more power.

I dont think the U.S. should've adopted the policy of imperialism. I think this because the U.S. was once a weak colony and knows how it feels to deal with that. put fire on fire you only get a bigger fire. England did the same thing to the U.S. I don't think it is right to barge into another colony and take it over. This causes too much problems and other nations dislike the U.S.

1. Americans supported imperalism or colonial expanison because:

- power, with more land other countries would have to depend on the Americans to supply for the demanded and Americans would have the power to control how businesses were run.

- Money to make the country more stronger as a nation and it would look well to the rest of the world. They would have a nation that made quality of products and other nations would want to be invovled with that.

- Protection. With power & money, foreign countries will have fear over the United States and they wouldn't mess with them because of the power that they have.

2. Even though that this country was a foreign country under imperalism im glad that this country has adopted those ways. Every new country starts out small and works their way to the top. Trying to make businesses is not wrong & makes a country stronger and thats the goal of a nation. To be powerful in every way they can.
But also this can cause conflict and rebel with other nations because this country believes in imperalism.

One reason Americans supported Imperialism is because it allowed America to grow larger as a country. Another reason why Americans supported Imperialism is because it gave the country more power. It was also a way for America to get more money. They could pay the workers very little. It also opened up doors for better trade. I think that the United States is not in the position to adopt the policy of Imperialism at the moment. Right now we have some problems that need to be fixed before we invade other countries. Maybe after the war in Iraq when we need to pay back China for all the borrowed money, we could adopt the policy of Imperialism for extra money.

The three reasons why Americans supported Imperialism is the desire for military strenght, thirst for new markets, and belief in cultural superiority. American leaders thought that the United States should build up it's own military strenght. One of the leaders was Alfred T. Mahan, who urged officails to build up American naval power to compete with other powerful nations. United states needed raw materials for factories and new markets for it's goods. they thought it was theirs to expand christianity and civilization. Civilization meaning only one nation. I think they shouldn't have adopted the policy of imperialism because no stronger nation should have the control over weaker nations.

One reason Americans supported imperialism is because by taking over other country's we can get there resources. This is great because than we can get things like fruits and oil with out paying. That means we wont have to pay a lot of money for fruit and oil. Another reason why Americans support imperialism is because Americans thought to be a powerful country they need to control parts of the world. My last reason is that American wanted to spread the American way of life. I'm for imperialism as long as the US goes into the country and does not treat the people of that country unfairly.

I believe that Americans supported imperialism because of:
1.Money-To fund their country && start to build things.
2.Power- To make it known, that American was the boss of everything and other countries should pay attention to them.
2.Democracy-To spred the American way and make sure that everyone followed their rules of the trade.

Well, I believe that they should of apodted imperalism but not take it to ectremes as they did, because it just made everyone look like horrible people and that they were heartless. I believe they should of done it to get the country started and make it known that they were the new kid on the block, but other than that they should of made up the counrty on their own and help them people that helped them (in some form)

I do not think the united stated once a colony of a foreign country itself, should have adopted the policy of imperialism. I mean practice what you preach. The U.S. hated the way Britain was run so they left, now they are doing the same thing. Thats being a criticizer. They didn't like when it was being done to them so why are they doing it to others. If other countries want your help ok, but you should wait for them to ask you. The truth is we just use that as an excuse. The people overseas needed to be changed into Christianity? Hawaii for example this part that gets me mad. Hawaiians let US into THEIR land. We turned on them and took over. They had a way of life that was working for them. They were not materialistic like us. We hated that, everyone had to be like us or they were considered "less able". I think thats crazy. Its like something from a book were someone takes over the world because there a lunatic and think everyone has to be a certain way, like Hitler was. So basically the U.S. should listen to what they tell other people because in the end they made the same exact mistake.

America adopted imperialism, due to the fact that they wanted to spread worldly influence. Also for the idea that they can get a better market and Economy. One more reason is that america needed a better defense system. Being that, we took alaska, Hawaii, and the Phillipenes.

Also, based upon america's hatered for imperialism in the beginning (brought apon by england) I beleive that america should have adopted imperialism, but not to an extreme. Such as that if we take land, we can have it, but not by force.

1. One reason why the US supported imperialism was because of the economy. The more land the US had, the better it was, and still is, for the economy. Another reason is because of protection. If we have more land, we can put military bases in multiple areas that we own, so that we can attack and defend from anywhere. The third reason is because of culture. The US thought that when they got Latin-American land, they would be able to teacher them the superior culture of Chritianity.

2. I don't think the US should of been an impearialist country. This is so because we should know about how it feels to be a colony being controled by a powerful country, and it isn't very good, the Anti-imperialist also brought up a good point. Having more land is more responsibility, and it could result to more money, like what happened with the Phillipenes when they tried to revolt, it took a lot of lives away, and cost a lot of money.

1. Identify the THREE reasons why Americans supported Imperialism or colonial expansion

The three reasons why Americans supported Imperialism were economic reasons, protection, and culture. The United States needed to establish themselves as one of the great powers among the great powers. Europeans countries were expanding their territories so the United States had to do the same in order to keep up with the other countries. Americans realized that in order to grow our economy, international trading was crucial. We also wanted to share our ideology of freedom and democracy around the world.

2. Should the United States, once a colony of a foreign country itself, have adopted the policy of imperialism? Why, or why not?

I think that the United States did the right thing by adopting the policy of imperialism because they were a newly established country with not much history. The United States needed to expand in size, power and military might so that they could defend themselves against the European powers such as Spain, England, Germany and France. The European countries were very aggressive in imperialistic adventures so the United States had to adopt the same policy in order to keep pace with these foreign powers. We needed to protect the freedom that took years of fighting to earn. We needed to establish friendship with some of these foreign countries so that we could develop economic trade with them. Imperialism helped us establish our own identity as a nation on the rise and a powerful force around the world.

1)Three reasons why Americans supported imperialism were Economic development, Protection and culture. Economic development is when Americans got raw materials from their imperialized colony and sold them for the wealth for the U.S. Protection meaning imperializing other small nations and proving that they are a world power and a dominate country. Culture is because Americans want to spread their culture around the world because the American way of living is best thought by many Americans and many other countries don’t have the privilege of living that way.

2)Yes because it benefited the U.S a lot economically , culturally and it opened many doors from America. At that time it was best because if they didn’t they might of got imperialized by other nations and America wouldn’t be the nation it is today. Although
it is very hypocritical because America wouldn’t want to be put in that position again of being a colony and they know how the imperialized nations feel but they couldn’t take the risk of showing weakness to other countries that imperialize such as Germany and Russia.
