something that we all can do as a school community to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, is maybe donate a dolor or less each and find an organization that we can send all the money to for whatever needs they choice to use the money for. another thing we can do to help is send school splice for the children form books to write on to anything that kids in our schools can give and come up with. There are so many different things that can be done we can maybe plain a trip over the summer to go and help out with cleaning up and setting new things for the people that have lost everything, something else we can do is get in touch with a group of people and hear them out and do what they ask us to do to help them.

i think in order to help those in need from huricane kutrina. we should have fund rasiers, and have clothing drives, and food drives. and once we do all of these things we could ship them to the victims so they would have these nessities in order to live a better life.

I notice that many HS students want to get involved in alturistic causes. Most think money is the solution, but is this a reality? Check out Vickie's idea of a letter writing campagin when you link to

I agreee with Natalie. We should send money to the victims of Hurricane katrina. That way they will be able to use it for whatever reason they need. We should have fundraisers in order to get the money. Also we should have clothing drives or can food drives. These ideas could probably help them.

To help the victims of Hurricane Katrina we all could donate money. We can then send the money to an organization that helps rebuild homes in New Orleans so that all the people in New Orleans who lost their homes can have homes again.

A good plan of action to help the people affected by Hurricane Katrina is by organizing programs like fund raisers, food drives, clothing drives, etc. All of these funds and items acquired through the drive would then be shipped directly to New Orleans to the relief shelters which would then distribute the resources to the people in need of them. Another great way to reach out to the people of New Orleans is organizing a clean up fund and actually going down to New Orleans and provide aid wherever it is needed. If we as Americans can mange to do something like this, the people of New Orleans will be doing a lot better and things will start to turn around for them. Jason K 902

Something that we as a school community can do to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is create a local event to raise essential things that the victims desperately need. I think that we should first focus on supplying them with food, a home and essential things needed for survival. Not only can we donate money but we can donate other things that can help achieve this. For example, to build a home you need money but also construction things, like cement. If people donated these things at least 1 person will have somewhere to live. We can also donate clothes, cleansing materials, first-aid kits and other things they might need.We can also donate our time. There are a million possibilities but we need to be united to make this happen.

In my opinion i think something we can do as a school community to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is to have a fundraiser. Each student would have to raise money for the victim of Hurricane Katrina and then bring the money they collect into school. The money should all go towards re-building and improving the schools down there. A learning environment is very important to the young minds, to grow and excel.

something that we could all do as a school community in order to help the victims of hurricane katrina is haveing something like a fundraiser or bake sale. Then we would be able to raise up money to give to the people so they could buys things that they need. Like clothes and food. Also student could bring in things that they think people bould need like soap, clocks, socks, umbrellas. Little things that would make a difference.

i would say in order to help some of the people that are in kutrina we should have a charity events sso that we can raise money and maybe donate it to a charity that funds it to new orleans or maybe collect clothes and food from the school and send it to them so that they can get through the harsh times and recover from what they went through.

I believe we should do something to help the Hurricane Katrina victims. One thing we should do is research a good organization who gives their money to Hurricane Katrina victims in need.Than we can raise money at our school and donate that money to the organization. We can also maybe find one family in New Orleans and try to help them with their needs.

Something that WJPS can do as a school community to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is to have different kinds of fundraisers donating these fundraisings to the victims of the Hurricane. Different examples of fundraisers can be school activities such as dances, bake sales, clothing drives, etc. These different funraisers can not only bring up money, but also necesities as well. Students are involved in these funding activities and as these funds go on, we can help the victims of Katrina too.

I agree with Nick C., we should all try our best to raise and donate money to people who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina because without a home these people don't have a place to come home and relax. We should also start fundraisers to make the plan of raising money easier.

What we can do to help new orleans is try and donate some clothes to people that lost them donate food, water, cleaning products. The reasoning for this is because people lost everything in that storm. Even us just as kids can donate to them down their knowing that the federal government didn't do nothing to help their own city. Even if we can't do a lot but even the littlest things can go a long way for people that have little to nothing. I don't think we would be able to go down to new orleans and help out with cleaning out the house, etc.. But we could donate money to them so they can get things working. The way we can do this is maybe have fundrasiers such as selling candy or bake goods. Or even having a drive for people to bring stuff they don't use at home. I know kids don't wear all the clothes that they have so they could donate it for a kid that lives in new orleans that barley has anything.

I agree with Christina Wylie and think we should donate money for good use such as school material for the kids, for clothing and other materials they need. I think that education and school is important and the kids of New Orleans need something to take their mind off of what is going on around them. We can also have volenteers to sew clothing for the children (and adults as well) so they dont have to wear the ripped shirts or pants. I think that these things can improve New Orleans and help it become what it was before

I think that the students in WJPS and in as many schools as we can spread the word to should all have some sort of Hurricane Katrina month. There are certain times in the year when certain things are dominant. For example anywhere from September to December unicef is very big. So are penny harvests, can drives, clothing collecting, school supplies collecting, etc. There are even events such as earth day. I think we should somehow get the word out and schedule a Hurricane Katrina month. Like some earlier ideas I think everyone should tell at least two people from schools besides theirs about this. They should talk to their principal, teachers, parents, etc. Even if in the end we only get two or three schools involved it still is something. During the month we should collect as much money as possible, have coat drives, clothing drives, furniture drives, blanket drives, canned food drives, school supplies drives, etc. Basically put all the ideas into one month. The theme being hurricane Katrina. In the beginning of the year my school had a pizza event at a restaurant where some of the proceeds went to my school but only for that day. If somehow we could get a restaurant to do that for the whole month and allow more than one school to participate we can donate the proceeds to habitat for humanity or some other organization. We can take many ideas from many people, including writing letters to victims our age and up. I think this is the best idea because we can have more than one thing and more than one idea to raise money. We can come up with even more than what I have here if we put our minds to it.

Something that we all can do as a schoool community to help the victims of hurrican katrina, is to get together and buy school supplies.
A lot of the schools were ruined and people are busy re building homes that the schools are not being supplied with books, paper, pens, etc.

As a school i think we can probably have each student bring in a certain amount of supplies to donate. Also if someone doesn't want to bring in supplies they can donate money. This money would only be used on the students affected by hurrican karina and supplies they need for school.

To help the people who were affected by hurricane Katrina I think we should have fund raisers and the money earned should go towards buying school supplies. I been watching TV and saw that the hurricane took away there schools and that the schools that were now there were very poor. We need to help New Orleans future.

As a community is to collect the neccesities that the victims of hurricane katrina need like maybe a fundraiser and maybe we can bring in clothes, food, books, toys for the younger children. There is so much that we can do. WE should all work together and come up with one idea or even a few.

As a school the best way to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is to donate money. Maybe an even bigger help, if it's possible to get all public and private high schools as an organization and donate. It wouldn't have to be money but anyhing you'd wish to send to the victims. And even a fun event such as a fund raiser or a little Pep Rally that can raise some money.

My Plan of Action

We all saw the documentary of the Hurricane Katrina incident. It was really terrible to see what happened to those people. New Orleans, a place where people had their history built up on. I saw that, that water is nothing to play with, it is something that is very powerful even if it is permeable.
One thing that shocked me is how the government did not take action fast enough. People were suffering, starving, and dieing. Finally they put people into the Super Dome and then FEMA finally shows some intrest. But, something I have just heard on the news is that those FEMA trailers are making people sick because they're contaminated with formaldehyde, a very dangerous chemical. So now they're recalling the FEMA trailers and now what are the people supposed to do.
What I'm saying is that as a plan of action as a school we could send in 2 dollars or more a week. Each advisory could send envelopes with a letter to parents explaining the situation. So the students can bring back the money and at the end of the month we could send it in and then continue with the same process the next month.
Another thing that could be done is another food drivejust like for thanksgiving, collect food every month and send it in. These are somethings that can make a difference at least a little bit.

My first idea would have been donations...but i dont feel comfortable collecting money when i honestly dont think it will be going to the right places. it would be wonderful to actually go as classes to these areas and help out ourselfs, but we dont have that option. i think vickies idea makes the most sense...survivors will benefit more from it.

I notice here that a lot of people are talking about fundraisers. I think that money is a big part of efforts to restore New Orleans to its previous state, but it is not the single most important thing. I believe Awareness is key, and to help spread it we could have a Hurricane Katrina Awareness week (or month) in school. It may be subtle difference, but we could learn about the suffering that has taken place and explore ways to help. Fundraisers and drives can be a part of this. I also noticed that on the QHST blog, someone said we should all tell atleast two people we know about the situation in New Orleans. This really stood out to me as an interesting way of spreading the word, and gathering people who have the power and resources to go to New Orleans and take the plight of the people into their own hands. After seeing some of the things in Spike Lee's Documentary, I think that the only true way to understand the damage is to see it for yourself. This could be a goal that we could work up to at some point in time. I also agree with Melissa that we should get as many schools as possible involved. Many organizations such as the Red Cross and Habitats For Humanity are trying to make a difference in peoples lives. If We put our minds to it, we can too.

something we can do together as a school to help raise money for hurricane katrina is to have different fundraisers. our school just had a clothing drive, maybe we could possibly have another one for the people back in new orleans. we could also help the kids with education by sending down old books that students could donate or possibly some textbooks from the school.

In order to help victims in hurricane Katrina we should set up a fundraiser club in school. People who want to help join the club and find ways to help the victims. Or maybe people in school can give money, For example in my old school we had hat day were the students can give a dollar if you want to wear a hat, or maybe 2 dollars if you want to wear jeans and a hat.
I also agree with Natalie's idea of going to a trip over the summer to help them out. To give them clothes, food, to help out cleaning up and give people company who are alone.

In my opinion something we can rly do as a school community to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina is to make like a big fundraiser or something. Have every student in the school raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and then bring all the money they had collected into school. I think that would work out pretty good. And what we do after we hav collected all of this money we donate into like rebuilding homes or education for the people tht went through Hurricane Katrina.
