BLOG ASSIGNMENT #3 -

What is up, people:
Mr. T here. I've really enjoyed looking at everyone's posts. If you don't have access to a computer, you can still complete the assignments on paper, and give them to me. Well, I guess if you don't have a computer, you're probably not reading this, but you can have a friend print it out and give you the assignment.
Anyway. Here's what I want you to think about. As we all know, and some of us have maybe even experienced, groups of people have been excluded from participation in government. By participating, I mean voting, holding public office, etc. From African-Americans, to women, to non-property holding people, at one time or another, people have not been given a say in their government.
My question to you is this:
What reasons might explain why certain people have been excluded from participating in government?

Well, here's what we're talking about.
Over the years, different groups, like women, African-Americans, and others, have been denied the right to participate in our government. By that, I mean voting. My question was basically, why do you think this happened? Hope this helps. Thanks for your input!
I believe this happened because the men who started the American government were quite stubborn. Back then men did everything. By everything I mean government and work wise. The women usually stood home and took care of the house and children. Immigrants came to have better lives but when they got to America it was no better because they had almost no rights. They could not find well paying jobs and they couldn't vote. Maybe the government was "trying to keep the country safe" but I dont think that is the reason. Women and African-Americans werent allowed to vote either.
I think they did this because they wanted to keep the country under their power and their decisions. Possibly because they wanted to be the people that others came to to ask for permission to do things. Maybe some of them wanted to feel like a god...Who really knows? What I do know is that some of the people in the government were racist towards others and they were not fair to the opposite sex.
Thank goodness that the government has changed over the years, but there is still one problem...Most immigrants are still not given the right to vote! That needs to be fixed at least fo the immigrants that have lived here for a while and the ones that are here to stay and ar working and raising children in America...I don't think sex or race matters..

RESPONCE TO GIO'S COMMENT...
I think Gio is right. The white men thought that they were supeirior to others. I can't see why because men and women are capeable of doing things that white men can do. I guess this is a type of racism. Like Gio said sex, skin color, and nationality does not matter but to them it did for some odd reason. Also I agree with him that people should be able to make a simple decision on their own. To me I do not care what color your skin is...if you are a boy, girl, maybe even both...I dont care what nationalitiy you are as long as we get along I have no problem at all...The government makes no sence to me they have to many problems!

There are many reasons some people aren't allowed the participate in government. To begin with most people who aren't allowed to take part in government are those who commit serious crimes. Murderers and thieves shouldn't be allowed to participate in government. People who aren't citzens also shoudln't have participation in government. I believe they should earn thier citzenship.
Throughtout U.S. history voting was usually limited to rich white protestant males. This lingering racism has been broken down, but is nearly impossible to defeat. Even today most of the delegation of congress is made up of white males and almost every president we had were white protestants. Have things really changed our are they a modified image of what things were. People may not be open about thier racist beliefs anymore, but they will use any chance they get to practice it. I believe there aren't many people who shouldn't have participation in government. Only criminals and immigrants shoudln't be allowed to participate otherwise a law abiding American citzen should be welcomed to participate.

I disagree voting is actually a very small unoticible way of participating in government, thats why so many people do it. Voting as a whole is a powerful factor, but individual voting isn't much. I believe this country is a place where you can wade your way through the smog of politics and have your voice heard by many.
Some reasons why certain groups of people have been denied the right to participate in the government is because the men that ran and run the governtment belive that women and African Americans are inferior to them. They belive that women should keep their role of house wives. They belive that women are much weaker then men. For african americans it is hard because some men and women belive that they dont have the right to govern the country. The white men belive that they only had and have the power.

Gio I agree with you. Men somethimes think there the best. They belive that they are the stronger and better people. This is not true women and african americans are capable to do the same somtimes even better.

The reasons that certain people have been excluded from participating in government because they are immigrants that came from different countries. There are many people who came to America for much better life, much better jobs, and better education in America. Also, there are different skin colors which are white and black. Many people didn't know what was going to happen when they landed on Ellis Island. There were many immigrants who went back to their country because they were sick or they got a disease. If they get a disease, it will affect American people and everybody will get the disease. People shouldn't have the right to vote because they don't know the law and they don't know about the rights.

certain people might be excluded from participating in the govornment because of their race, and gender. For example, so far, there hasnt been not ONE president that was black, chinese,hispanic, or any other race besides white. Also, you havent seen any woman president before either. With voting, people that are not citizens of the country, or that are illeagaly in this country cannot vote.
The ones who would usually participate in government were the men. Back in the old days women weren't allowed to vote or exprese their feelings about the government. They were considered as the ones who would stay home and watch over the children. But not all men could participate in the governement. In order to participate they had to be rich, white men who at least owned a land and was a member of the church. Other reasons males didn't consider women as part of the government was because they thought women were less smarter and weaker than men. Another group of people that weren't allowed to vote were African Americans. They couldn't vote, be a part of the government and were considered as slaves to the white people. White people considered them slaves because of their black skin. They were very rascism towards their skin. But now a days things have changed and everybody is free to vote and to be a part of government without being judged on how they look.

In the early days of the government, men did and said everything that was to do with the gov't. The women had no say untill they decided to say something and speak their minds. But only rich white men had a say. There were no African-Americans, Hispanics, or Women allowed.
