EXTRA CREDIT BLOG ASSIGNMENT

Wow. That was one of the best lessons I've ever been involved with today in class 901. You guys (and girls) were very passionate about this issue. I'm sorry if people got upset, but in a way, it's good. It shows you're alive! That you care very much about something. It's very inspiring when students get into an issue so much.

Anyway, for those of you who weren't there, here's the question:

Should the right to vote be limited only to people who are citizens of this country?

This is an issue that many of us, particularly those of us who have recently come to this country, feel quite strongly about. There are many different sides to the issue. One side, those who say "no," will state if you're not a citizen, you don't get to vote; kind of like if you go to the game without a ticket, you don't get in. The other side states that if these people are here working, and doing their best to start a new life, then the right to vote should be given to them.

Talk to people. Friends, relatives, the guy who owns the deli down the street. Your next-door neighbor. Get their ideas. Also, think about where they are coming from. What's their "perspective," or point of view. There's no easy answer to this.

Feel free to post to this as much as you like. Please maintain a sense of respect. It's OK to disagree, but not to disrespect. Good luck!

See ya!

Voting for immigrants is a touchy subject. How can you tell someone whose lived here for years they can't vote. Sadly I would have to say we need to play it by the books. Immigrants aren't of the American people and haven't earn thier right to be called an american citzen thus losing thier right to vote. I believe thier should be citzenship classes for those who wish to become a citzen

There shouldn't be rights to vote for limited only to people who are citizens of this country because they don't know the people and not all people don't know what the laws or the rights of this country is. I say that to vote, the immigrants should live in America for around 12 years.

I belive that immingrants should have the right to vote. In America immingrant basically run the country in one way. They due most of the work that citizens dont want to due. I due understand what people like Elena were saying but i still think that immingrant that live here in the United States of America should be granted that right.

I di ask about ten people this quetion about half said the should have the right. About 2 people said they werent sure. And the others said that immigarnt dont due anything for this country so they shouldnt have that right.

i think that immigrants shouldn't be aloud to vote. they are esentialy cheating the hard working americans out of their chance to vote for a leader of THEIR country. the immigrants may know who they'd like to elect, but shouldn't have the chance because they are not legally here untill the citizenship is completed. many people think differently, but thats my opinion and your opinion can't be wrong.

I thin k that if the person is living here for a long enough period of time and raising kid's or working and trying to get somewhere in life they should be able to vote. If they aren't allowed to vote what is their purpose here? They have to be a part of the government if they live here (voting) because we need as many opinions and votes as possible so that the "best" candidate gets elected...=]
