The US and Imperialism

Hello, Everyone:

Here's tonight's HW. Posting must be received by 11:00 PM Sunday in order to receive credit.

Should the United States, once a colony of a foreign country itself, have adopted the policy of imperialism (the colonizing of other nations)?

No. Just because other countries have done this to us, doesn’t mean we should do it to other, weaker countries. This is not the right thing to do. Imperialism is not the answer to any kind of troubles that are going on between any countries. Yes, back in the 1700's and 1800's we WERE victims of imperialism but now we are our own country. we should let every other free county live in peace and put upon them what was put upon us.

by the way, this is julia from your hour 5 class.

i dont think the united states shouldve adopted the policy of imperialism. i dont think so because if they were to adopt the policy of imperialism, that they would be hated by the countries they would've controled, and would've been seen as rulers and dictators and there wouldve been rebiliion. its good that the united states didnt adopted the policy of imperialism because they didnt create problems for themselves.

I dont think the U.S. should've adopted the policy of imperialism for the fact that it was a colony itself and went through the same problem with England. It's one thing to help a country then to take it over. It's like when you have a friend that defends but then there the one who bullys you around. It just not right. That's why the U.S. is disliked by many countries now.

It was necessary for the US to start being imperialistic. If they were not imperialistic, arguments and rebellions would have occurred. As it was the 13 colonies formed a small country, and as time went on, their population would grow, causing fights over territories. That is why the US set out to acquire more land. If we did not acquire land, more civil wars would have been fought. Our country would be in ruins just because we didn't have enough land to fit us all in. Sure we ruined other countries, and forced Native Americans into reservations, but, we said sorry and gave them some land. It was survival of the fittest. Now that we have this land, we also have power. And thanks to years of development we have become a super power.

The United States, once a colony of a foreign country itself, shouldn't have adopted the policy of imperialism because then other nations and countries will hate The United States. Also, the word imperialism means when one nation controls the another nation and to make it a colony. The Phillipenes, Hawaii, Latin America, and etc. is the United States territory and it shouldn't have adopted the policy of imperialism. This is why the United States shouldn't have adopt the policy of imperialism.

No,the united states should not have adopted the policy of imperialism. If the United States hated the feeling of being colonized by other nations, why would they make other colonies feel the same way as they did. It would mean to show that you don't care about anybody else except for yourselve. Besides that they would create conflicts with other nations and its better to get along with everyone. This way nobody would despise you. Like what George Washington did on staying neutral during the war. This helps you mind your own buisness and nobody else.

I think the US government should not try to take over other countries, except for Iraq because we already are involved in a war there, and we must see through the end. Our mission in Iraq was not to colonize it but to put an end to terrorism. Al-Qaeda and other groups in the Middle East are terrorist groups, that are supported by certain foreign governments. Our aim in Iraq was to bring democracy to the country and end terrorism. Although Saddam Hussein is dead, many insurgents are making it difficult to end the war and bring peace to Iraq. The United States should not interfer in the running of the country. Since the United States used to be a colony of Great Britain and did not like being ruled by another government, then I do not think it is right for America to try to control other countries.

The United States of America has always been a strong country in terms of military. The colonies we acquire should of course be kept due to its strategic value. We of course will offer the colonies an invitation to become a state, but it should be forced too always be an ally of the us due to it’s lost of control of itself. The way I see it is those countries had a chance too handle their business as a country on their own if they failed too comply with this then the united states had all the right to claim them as theirs.

No, because imperalism is a way of saying that I'm a stronger country than you are so I'll take over which is wrong, imperalism is wrong. Like we went into Spain and just took over dusrupted their way of living their beliefs, religon and their freedom. It's like back with the white settlers and the Native Americans or the indians, the white settlers went into the indian lands and said you have the better amount of soil you have gold, and you have animals so well were taking them, and we did becasue they had bows and arrows and we had guns. And that's what imperalism is except werew not taking land from our own country were going into a totally differnt country itself and taking them over.

NO i dont think america should have adopted the policy of imperalism this is because we once went threw the same issues as the other weaker colonies went threw.three reasons why america supported this idea was because it helped the spread of colonies allowed us to abtain more goods and the spread of religion (christianity).
