HW 9/18/07

Democracy means "rule of the people." In other words, people are the source of power in this form of government. People in a democracy use thier power when they vote.

Here's a question to consider. Write a reflection of at least five, but no more than eight sentences based on this question.

What reasons might explain why people have been denied the right to vote?

If possible, please use specific examples.

Remember, ANONYMOUS POSTS WILL NOT BE COUNTED. You must sign your name somewhere, preferably at the bottom of your post. You must write your first name, last initial, and class period.

See ya tomorrow!

Some people may have been denied the right to vote. They could of been denied the right to vote because they would of voted for the other candidite. The reason is because the other canditite might have different laws or policies he wanted to use. This may have been the reason why some people may have been denied the right to vote.

Some reasons might be is becsuse if possible the whole vote thing could be(fix).
Another reason is because kids can't vote which is good thing because kid at there age don't koe much about gov and and they probly only care for games and school.
if denied then the whole country would be in flames, with no gov running protecting them everbody going to be killing each other and stuff like that!

There are many reasons why people have been denied the right to vote. One reason is because they were women. In the past women were not allowed to vote and to do other things. Another reason people have been denied the right to vote is because they were colored. Colored people had very little choices in life back than. In the past many people in America were racist.

I think that people have been denied the right to vote because in the 1800’s women didn’t have the right to vote because the men thought that they were just for cleaning and take care of care of children but than about 1850’s the women got the right to vote. Kids under the age of 18 can not vote because the government does not think that kids under the age of 18 can make a decision for the next president!

The reasons why people might have been denied the right to are because of thier race. Also if you are a convicted felon, the court can deny your right to vote. Many years ago women in the United States were denied the right to vote. However the 19th Ammendment gave all the people including women the right to vote. The 15th Ammendment gave African Americans the right vote as well.

What reasons might explain why people have been denied the right to vote?

Some people were not able to vote because government were afraid that the people would listen to another person whose idea that the government did not agree with. Then the people would all agree and the idea would be acceptable.

EXAMPLE.I dont think this is actually from history or documented im just using something that I believe is true.

African-Americans right to vote.

African-Americans around 1800s' were not allowed to vote, simply because they were African and government believed that there werent smart and informed about polictics to be given the right to vote for a new politican. They were scared if they gave power to African-Americans, they would just vote for some other African-American and that they would power as a government.

I couldnt think of an example, I hope this is good enough. =)

there are many reasons for peaple to be denied the right to vote. one reason is because if everyone had the right to vote then people would think that everyone is equal, and that we all have the same privaleges. and then people that are young and immature may choose anyone and the whole place would be out of order

I think that people may have benn denied the right to vote because the king or the leader may have been worried about his power decreasing. The king wants power all to himself and doesn't want to share it. If citizens were given the right to vote those who opppose against the king or leader could vote against the king and run him out of power. To the leader voting is sharing power and in some case losing it all. That's why people were denied the right to vote.

A reason why people have denied the right to vote is because if they went agents their ruler they will get punished also what if they were the only once that though voting for some thing or someone else was better but the every one else voted to something else that one person would feel like there was no reason for them to speak out for what they believed and they wanted to fit in with the majority .

There can be a few reasons why people have been denied the right to vote. One reason could be that they are not a citizen of that country. Another reason could be that they are not qualified to vote, due to their age. I think that everyone should have the right to vote because it is important that the people of a country voices are heard. These are some reasons why people have been denied the right to vote.

Some reasons why people were denied the right to vote are that they were black, women, and people under the age of 18. Black people were denied the right to vote because they were not treated as equals. The Grandfather Clause made it possible for the black community to vote. Women didn't have the right to vote until 1869 when the National Women's Sufferage Association forced Congress to amend the Constitution. People under the age of 18 are still denied the right to vote. Under the law a person is not "legal" until they turn 18.

Some people have been denied the right to vote only for their age or because they where a woman and if you where African American. Now all of this has change and people have the equal right to vote. It does not matter of some one age, sex or skin color anymore because now we all have equal rights.

I think that people were denied to vote because they were not old enough to vote. Or they were not smart enough or about there race. They had to pass the quiz when theyd were on line and they only singled out certain people. But when you think about it not alot of people were smart. Now you have to be 18 or older to vote. That is why i think that was some of the reason why some people did not vote.

People may have been denied to vote for many reasons. One example, women. Women were denied the right to vote till the 1920s. Women were probably denied this right because men were the ones who worked and were the breadmakers so women's opinion didn't matter as much. Also, African Americans were denied the right to vote because they weren't seen as important and no one valued their opinion until now. That was why people might have been denied the right to vote.

People who are under 18 have been denied the right to vote. I think that they have been denied the right to vote b/c we are too young to understand politics or they dont care about it. Immagrants are also not allowed to vote. They are not allowed to vote b/c they are not citizens of the USA therfore they dont have a say in who get elected ect. People who have not registered to vote also cannot vote b/c you have to let the city/ state know you are goning to vote at the next election.

In the beginning of our country, they didnt think that the masses were smart enough to vote. Secondly you could not vote unless you owned land. Slaves of course were not aloud to vote because they were not citizens. Women were not aloud to vote because they were not considered equal to men. They made a literacy test so that the uneducated could not vote. Then they passed a poll tax which means you had to pay to vote which many citizens could not afford to do.

1) The people in power may have been prejudice to certain ethnic groups.
2) The government officials may have excluded people who couldn't write or had a formal education.
3) The people who tried to vote may have had a criminal background.
4) They may been excluded because it was a different time period.
5) They may have been excluded because they were immigrants from another country. Jason K 902

I believe that some people have been denied the right to vote for some legal reasons, and I know two. The fist reason is that the person is not leagally in this country. If they are not legally registered in the U.S. they can not vote. the second reason is that this person has just entered the country recently and is not a U.S. citizen yet. I*f you are not a citizen in the U.S. you can't register to vote.

There are a few reasons why a person would be denied the right to vote. One reason would be if they were not yet a US citizen. You have to be a registered citizen in order to vote. My friend's mother came here from Israel and has been here for a while. It wasnt until resently that she was considered a citizen and was able to vote.

Hi Mr Tesler,
this is Anastasia Papis, class 903. i am in your period 4 class. I have many responses to the question you are asking. I think many people are being denied the right to vote, because of their cultures. I recently found out on the internet, that 38 million Pakistan women have been denied the right to vote for this years voting in November. This is a discrimination of cultures, and they are not allowed to register to vote. Also, many women are being denied the right to vote, because of their gender. I think this is wrong, because any genedr or culture should be allowed to vote. We have civil rights, and I think the government is discriminating many different people. The main reason why the government is denying the right to vote, is because they want to control the voter lists by deleting those names belonging to the opposing parties. Overall, I think that the government is not thinking about other people cultures or genders, and they are discrimating them. Everyone should be allowed to vote.

Some of the reasons why people have been denied the right to vote because some people were not in the democracy and couldnt vote. Another reason people were denied to vote was because the Universal suffrage is the term used to describe a situation in which the right to vote is not restricted by race, gender, belief or social status. Another reason why they were denied the right to vote is because It typically does not extend a right to vote to all residents of a region; distinctions are frequently made in regard to citizenship, age, and occasionally mental capacity or criminal convictions.

One reason that might explain why people have been denied the right to vote is because they might be a strong group of people who might make a great difference in the outcome. For example women weren't always able to vote. Another strong group of voters that once were denied the right to vote are African Americans. I guess the gov't thought their vote wil make a great difference in the results. A few years ago you weren't able to vote unless you were 21. Now that has changed. You can vote once you are 18. Women, African Americans, and 18 year olds that are citizens are making a great difference when it comes to deciding who will govern the nation.

I think that people have been denied the right to vote because the government thought they would abuse there voting writes. Also they thought some people weren't smart enough and wouldn't understand what they were doing.

In the past, there have been times when people have been denied the right to vote because of certain differences that they had. As the true power of the government lies in the hands of the people, This undoubtedly prevented some from voicing their political opinions. By denying members of the population to vote, you lessen the number of people who influence the positions of higher office. Though it is clear that many were denied this right for moral issues about sex and race, an underlying reason may have been this. In disabling certain groups' right of suffrage, the government denies the people the right to have a say in their own government.

- i think that the people have been denied their riqht to vote because if they vote for somethinq the qovernment or kinq/queen ; thinks shouldnt happen then it will happen no mater what they think. so they want to have absolute power over the poeple. which has been ; at this moment; shared with the people. the only reason why the qovernemt lets this happen is so they can stay in some sort of control.

There are many reasons why people have been denied to vote. One reason is if you're not a citizen you're not allowed to vote. I mean why should you be when you just came to the country and hardly don't know the government and the people. Also if you're not over the age of 18 you also should not be allowed to vote. Kids don't really care whos president or not when their under the age of 18. What I'm trying to say is they have more "important' things to do than worry about who to vote for. so 18 is a fair law because at that time kids leagally become adults and are more mature. they will probbly have a better saying at who to vote for. these are some reasons why people have been denied the right to vote.

josh30 said...

Well of course they would be denied below the age of 18. The reason is that some people may think that the ages below are immature. People from out of the country have been denied the right to vote because they might not know what they are talking about. But then there could be a racial issue. It all depends how someone sees somebody.
