Bill of Rights HW 10/31/07

Hello, Everyone:

Here's your HW for this evening.

1) Using your textbook, handouts, or the internet, locate the Bill of Rights, or the first ten amendments to the US Constitution. Here's some cool links below to help you.

http://www.constitutioncenter.org/constitution/details_explanation.php?link=120&const=08_amd_01

http://www.ushistory.org/documents/amendments.htm

2. Carefully study the amendments, then create a "Top 10 List" of the amendments in order of importance. In other words...Which of the 10 amendments is the most important to you? Second? Third, Etc.?

3. In a brief composition, explain WHY you chose to put the amendments in that order.

See you in school tomorrow!

I believe that the order of the most important amendmends to the Constitution should be:
1st
7th
4th
2nd
5th
9th
10th
8th
3rd
I think that the amendmdends should be ordered like this because the first amendment, which is the freedom of speech, religion, and press is the important because people should have a right to believe in anything that they want and should be able to speak their mind. I think that the 7th amendment is next because you should be able to have a fair trial and share your side of the story instead of just one persons side of their story. The 4th amendment is very important because it protects you from the police illegally searching your home.

amendment 1:religious and political freedom. freedom of speech, the press, or the right of the people peacebly to assemble , and to petition the government for a redress of grievances..
amendment 3:quartering troops
amendment 4:search and seizure
amendment 6:right to a speedy,public trail
amendment 5:rights of accused persons
amendment 8:limits of fines and punishments
amendment 2:right to bear arms
amendment 7:trial by jury in civil cases
amendment 9:rights of people
amendment 10:powers of states and people

I chose to put the amendments in that order because I think that is the way they should be. I consider amendment 2 is not that important that is why I put that as the 7th amendment.

Top 10 List
1. Amendment I
2. Amendment VI
3. Amendment II
4. Amendment V
5. Amendment IX
6. Amendment VIII
7. Amendment IV
8. Amendment VII
9. Amendment X
10.Amendment III

I put these amendments in this order because I believe that amendment 1 is one of the most important amendments because America is founded on the very principles discussed in Amendment I. Amendment I sums up overall all of the basic rights that are needed to keep America democratic. I feel that Amendment X II aren't really as important as Amendments VI and II because quartering troops is not necessary, but there maybe a serious crisis that occurs that might require a little bit of civilian aid. Amendment X is important basically of the states rights but this amendment is a bit unnecessary because isn't it obvious that the states cant do whatever they want. Any way all of the amendments play their part in making America a better place. Jason K 902

Bill Of Rights:

Amendment 1: I rate this 10 because it states that people can have their freedom and no law can stop that. I think people should have their rights and freedom and the government shouldn’t take that away from them. That is why I rate this 10.

Amendment 2: I give this also 10 because its gives us security. I believe our country should be secure and no law should stop that. The government should protect us and that is why this is in the second amendment.

Amendment 3: I give this an 8. I am not saying I don’t agree with it. But in a time of need when you have to get into someone’s house and you don’t have a warrant. That will not be good. That is why I rated this 8.

Amendment 4:

Amendment 5: I give this a 10. I give this a 10 because it gives people a right to fight for their lives. It also gives them a right to prove that they are innocent during court. That is why I gave that a 10.

Amendment 6: I give this an 8 because I don’t fully agree with it. But it gives the criminals their rights during court time. It wouldn’t be fair if they had no rights even if they were guilty.

Amendment 7: I really don’t understand what this Amendment is stating

Amendment 8: I give this a 10. I gave this a 10 because I agree that no free bails should be given but the criminals should not be cruelly punished in any way.

Amendment 9: I give this a 10 because I don’t believe any laws should be changed under any circumstance.

Amendment 10: I give this a 10 because it sums up the bill of rights very well.
