Homework 10/16/07

Imagine...Only ONE of the 10 Amendments that make up the Bill of Rights could be added to the Constitution. In other words, you can only one have one freedom guaranteed to you by the Constitution.

Which one would you choose? Free speech is nice, but what about the rights of people accused of crimes? Or, it doesn't really sound like it does a whole bunch, what about the 10th amendment, which gives powers not specifically given to the Federal gov't back to the states?

Think very carefully. Then write a post of at least 50 words, but not more than 100 that identifies the amendment you choose, and more importantly, a detailed explanation about your reasons for keeping that amendment.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I think amendment one :
Amendment I - "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
I think that because people need to be their own person. Like if you dont have freedom of religion your going to have to pretend to be somthin your not, wich i think is wrong.

I think that the 1st Amendment was the most important because it gives us the freedom of speech, freedom to the press, and freedom of religion. We can write whatever we want in the newspapers, magazines, and articles. We can also talk about whatever we want on the news without fear of the government arresting you. You are also allowed to worship whomever you want and can go to church on Sundays.

If I had to choose one of the 10 amendments, I would choose freedom of religion. The reason why I would choose freedom of religion, is because people are allowed the right to practice their religious beliefs without being harmed. They are allowed to express their faith, and other people won't bother them, because they have the freedom to do this. It also allows people who do not follow any religion, to not follow it if they dont really want to. i think freedom of religion is an excellent freedom, because we are allowed to express our beliefs and ideas within our community and ourselves. We dont have to hide who we are in the world, and we are shown as equals, no matter what religion you are.

One of the 10 Amendments that make up the Bill of Rights that could be added to the Constitution would be the fourth Amendment, “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” I would want this to make up the Bill of Rights because it gives me a sense of security to know that nobody can step into my home or nobody can touch my property without a rational reason.

I would want the first Amendment. The right to free speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of relgion because free speech let's anyone speak freely. Freedom of the press let's the press write about anything they feel is important. And freedom of religion let's any kind of race or religion into our country.
