HW 10/30/08

Imagine...Only ONE of the 10 Amendments that make up the Bill of Rights could be added to the Constitution. In other words, you can only one have one freedom guaranteed to you by the Constitution.

Which one would you choose? Free speech is nice, but what about the rights of people accused of crimes? Or, it doesn't really sound like it does a whole bunch, what about the 10th amendment, which gives powers not specifically given to the Federal gov't back to the states?

Think very carefully. Then write a post of at least 50 words, but not more than 100 that identifies the amendment you choose, and more importantly, a detailed explanation about your reasons for keeping that amendment.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I choose the ninth amendment because it technically does all of the other amendment. The ninth amendment gives you the right of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The ninth amendment protects your life if it is endangered. The ninth amendment gives you liberty. It also gives you what makes you happy like the first amendment. It gives you every single right that would not be mentioned.

If I had to choose one amendment it would be the first amendment-freedom of speech. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think this is the most important amendment because everyone is different and thinks differently.

One of the 10 amendment iwould keep is the tenth amendment, because children cant speak there mind for the freedom of speach and if the FED gov't the whole country would be all over the place. I would also choose the 10th amendment beacuse it gives powers not specifically given to the Federal gov't back to the states.

I i could choose an amendment i would choose freedom to bare arms because if you are on the train and a cop comes and stops you and you didn't do anything and you don't have anything on you and lets say u have a problem like diabetes and you are embarrassed about and you have sertain medication and a cop searches you that's invasion of your privacy! That's why cops shouldn't be allowed to search you without a warrant.

If I had to choose one amendment it would have to be freedom of speech. I would pick freedom of speech because I think that all American Citizens have the right to say what they want about anything. If they want to say, "I’m a butt head" then fine. If they say "I don’t like Bush" then fine. If the government took away our rights to say what we wanted, no one would have an opinion. We would all just be the governments little robots, doing what they wanted when they wanted.

i think that the 1st Amendment is the most important because really without all of those freedoms, a lot of other amendments don't have to be followed.

Out of all of the Bill of Rights , if only one amendment could of been added to the US constitution, then I would definently chose the ninth amendment. I chose this because if you look at the logic of things, you would notice the the ninth amendment states that all other rights to the people living in America that aren't writen on paper, still aplies. This means that this amendment gives us more than 1 civil rights, unlike the other amendments.

I believe that on of the Amendments that could be added to the Constitution would be the 9th Amendment. This Amendment states that “listing some rights dose not mean that people do not have other rights. I think this is important because naming rights is required, but as time goes by people might want more rights and things might need to be changed. The 9th Amendment guarantees that more rights can be added. This one could be as important as the ever popular freedom of speech because without this one how would we be able to add to our rights.

If I could choose one amendment I would choose the fourth amendment. This amendment protects me from unreasonable search and seizures. My house, my papers and effects are all personal things that belong to me. No one should have the right to search or seize these items from me without a good reason or supporting documents. A person should feel safe and protected in one’s home. As the old saying goes, a home is a man’s castle and we are the king of these castles and no one should be allowed to enter and disrupt our lives without just cause.

The one amendment that i would choose to be in the constitution is freedom of speech. I chose freedom of speech because people have the right to say anything thing they want unless it doesn't hurt anyone. I also chose freedom of speech because if we didn't have our freedom of speech we wouldn't be able to express ourselves and give new ideas to help causes that are going on.

If i were to choose one out of the ten amendments, i would probably choose freedom of speech, which is amendment number one. Having freedom makes up everything up. Having the right to talk about whatever i'd want and when i'd want and say it too is having freedom of speech. If i had no freedom then i would most likley have nothing to say to speak my mind. Being free means that i have the right to have my own privacy without other people assuming that me or someone else is accused of being a criminal.

I think that the Amendment I would choose would be number 9. This Amendment gives the people their rights that are not in the Constitution already. It also protects the people's natural rights, and does not let those be taken away in any circumstance. This allows the people to have the rights they were born with, and to always have them.

One of the ammendments i would add to the constution would be the ammendment that talks about people accused of crime. I think it should be added to the Constution because people should be able to explain if they did or did not comitee the crime. They should not have to go to Jail for someone else's Crime.
Another Ammednemnt i would add to rhe constution would be how your not allowed to own a guy without a permit i would have to agree and disagree about that ammednment because maybe you want to feel protected if you live in a bad neighborhood and alot of people brake into people's house's. But i also disagree because what if someone finds the gun and does something bad? SO i think that ammedment should be added to the constution.

if we only had to choose one amendment to be in the constitution i would be the no punishment or cruel treatment. it would be hard because we wouldn't have that much freedom but with the guarantee that we cant be treated with cruelty for no reason something like slavery wont happen.

In my opinion, I think that the First Amendment [Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Assembly] would be the amendment that I feel would be most important to have in the Constitution if I could only pick one. I chose this particular amendment because I feel that it is quite important to be able to say/publish what we want as long as it does not harm another individual. Even though protection and all of that is very important as well, what would we need to be protected from if there was no freedom in the first place?

I beleive that in the constituition we should have the right for people to not be assumed of, as terrorist or people who did something wronge. I beleive that every search should have a good reason not just because. I think this because i think that it really doesnt support our freedom and some of us who would never do anything that bad, dont want to be accused of it. So i want to see in the constitution a person rights to not be searched just because

If I could only have one of the 10 amendments I would like to have the rights of the 8th Amendment. The reason I would like to keep the 8th amendment is because it protects you from cruel or unusual punishment from the government. For example, if you commit a crime and the 5th & 6th amendment weren't around the government could through you in jail, but they cannot hurt or punish you in anyway because of the 8th amendment. Obviously all the other 9 amendments are extremely important for everyone and if they all got striped away it would be horrible, but the 8th amendment would at least keep you safe from purpose pain.

If i had to choose what freedom I would have it will definetly be freedom of speech. i think this is very important because with freedom of speech you can express yourself freely to anyone and they cant do anything about it.i think this is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights and without it people might not feel comfortable expressing themselves to others.

I think the 10th amendement is probabaly more important, because evrthing is balanced no one has more power then the other. The goverment just dont have a say in the matter, the normal people have a say too because what ever power that the gov. does not have the normal people have. Thats good because the normal people can have some power that the goverment has, to make to help us because we know what we want.

One amendment I would definitely want added to the bill of rights would be the freedom of speech. you have the right to say your opinion and what you think. it's basically liberty to express your opinion and ideas without fear of punishment. People could say what they feel and they could change something.

I honestly think that freedom of speech is important. Because to me, as long as I am voicing my opinion and actually doing something with my ideas and sharing them, then I'm happy. It also gives people the right to say what they want and actually have a chance to prove themselves innocent. So it's giving everybody an equal amount of what they want to say, whether or not it's right or wrong.

If only one amendment could be added to the constitution, i would choose amendment 6, the right to a fair & speedy trial. it carried out the message of fairness and equality, two qualitites our country was founded upon. The defendandt is told the nature and cause of the accusation against him/her. The trial is done in a confrontational manner. Questions are asked and answered. Observations are made from this and evidence presented. From the observations and evidence, the jury comes to a decision. Because of the 6th amendment, all people are innocent until proven guilty. If all evidence proves to you, you are found guilty. This helps to keep the innocent people from being wrongly accussed. Although it may happen, it isnt often. The sixth amendment is an important one to our country.

The amendment I would choose is the 10th amendment. I chose this one because each state still gets a chance to make their own laws and doesn't have to do everything that the federal government decides on. Each state will take care of the people and make sure that the laws are good for them. They can be a part of making decisions

If I could choose one amendment i would choose amendment 1. i would choose amendment 1 because it allows you to have your say in what goes on. Also, it allows you to speak how you feel. If we didn’t have freedom of speech we wouldn’t be able to defend our selves.

I choose the first ammendment because we would not be able to practice the religions we practice, we wouldn't be able to say what we wanted when we wanted without getting in trouble with the law, we wouldn't be able to write what we wanted in newspapers and many other freedoms would be taken away.

I believe, given the scinario, that the only ammendment that is important, is the first, with out that one, america cannot have the freedom it has today.

Also, it is important because it ensures the basic freedoms that most americans cannot live without.

i would pick the first amendment which is the freedom of speech i would choose it because everyone is entiled to there own opinions and i think its important for everyone to make there own desions.
