Promote the General Welfare?

Click on the links below, and carefully read the articles:

Bush Vetoes Child Health Care Bill

House to Vote on New Child Health Bill

Then, based on the article and our discussion in class, reflect on the following questions:

What are the checks and balances taking place here?
Is healthcare a federal, city, or individual responsibility?
What are the limits of "promote the general welfare?"

Heathcare could be indvidual or federal because if you dont have a job maybe the goverenment could help you pay for your heathcare but the people who do have a full paying job it would be indivdual. The Limits of general wellfare would be that if you dont have a Job the governement should pay half or something or everyone should have heathcare in gernal. The checks and balances taking place is the Legislaturive because there making the laws

Balances for poor kids should be the same as the soldiers fighting in Iraq because they are being paid and their families have money.

My opinion is, that healthcare is a individual responsibility because we pay for it.

During this event, the cheecks and ballances taking place were: Popular Sovereignty, Republicanism, Seperation of powers, and Federalism. I believe that health inssurance to families that can't afford it should be concider a federalist thing. This is so because it isn't fair to those who can't afford it, and the government won't do a thing about it. I think that the limit is families that make only $100,000 dolors a year, and has to have a family of four, or greater. This is so because that seems like a paycheeck that can't really afford health inssurance, and support their fammily of four all at the same time.

The Checks and Balances being placed in the articles was child health care. And whether or not it should be promoted for poor children.
I personally think that health care should be a federal responsibility because sometimes people get stuck in situations where they themselves just cannot support their children with proper health care so they should be able to turn to the government for help when it's needed.
The limits to promoting general welfare are that some people make take advantage to the general welfare which could mean "wasting money".

the checks and balances that taken place here are that the president has received a bill fro, Congress and the president vetoed it which is an example of checks and balances.

Health care is a federal responsibility because, at this moment the president has the power to veto health care plans posed to him.

The limits to "promote the general welfare" is that in this day in age to promote it the plan for the welfare must be approved by the president in order to be sent to the Senate. If Senate does not approve it then the plan to promote "the general welfare" is not put into action.

The "Checks And Balances" that is taking place in these articles is that the Congress had passed a bill for children's health care and the President vetoed it.
I agree that the health of our population is a federal responsibility because it IS up to the President to veto such bills which makes it their responsibility to pass bills like those as well. That is making it their responsibility.
The limits to "promoting the general welfare" is that nowadays, the branches have the power to make laws involving welfare. So, whatever they would like to do or would not like to do is the limits they can set.
